Shiny Shoes

Shoes are very important  in many Central African countries, and Ethiopia, in this respect, is no different.

Lines of shoe shiners can be found on every main thoroughfare – and some of the minor ones too, armed with water-bottles and assorted water containers, rags, ancient looking tins of polish and a rock.

Some put their heart and soul into it and can take near to 20 minutes. Lidya tells me to pay Birr 3, but i invariably give Birr 4, and on one occasion Birr 5 for such love and care taken over my black Rockpools’ slip-ons / work-shoes.
