Livestock On The Streets

Having spent many months in India, i don´t bat an eyelid when confronted with an urban cow in the middle of the streets.

Nonetheless it is somewhat surprising to note that there are both cow and sheep herders here in the middle of the city, let alone plots of grazing land along the side of the roads. The government recognise that agriculture is endemic to the people and to the economy.

I recently got mobbed by a large flock of some 150 sheep on a footbridge across a six lane ring road. A fairly regular occurrence apparently - especially at New Year!

Crazy Fact: Ethiopia boasts the fourth largest population of donkeys in the world.
