Get Out of my School (Again)

Maybe it was one email too far, maybe my non-conformity to Boss’s imagination, but, as Ginger Warrior quickly notes, the arrival of external inspectors on Monday, but out of the blue, a letter is delivered in person by Ato Sin and King Ted on Friday to me in my office.

It is from school founder/General Manager Ato S.

It reads as follows:

On behalf of X School and myself, i would like to express my gratitude for all your support you have provided since you have taken up the role of Sirector of Primary. Your proactive initiatives and passion about bringing about positive change has not gone unnoticed. If, over the course of this noble endeavour , you have encountere various obstacles, which at times have been frustrating to you and your colleagues, it can be considered as an occupational hazard and nothing more than that!

It is with this understanding that we believe you deserve to be given time off from  work. Accordingly, we are offering you a paid vacation to start effective tody to the end of the schoo year.

We sincerely hope that this break would give you the opportunity of travelling and visiting various tourist attractions that should be visited by anyone who has had the opportunity of coming to Ethiopia, or to do with your time as you please.

We would also like to seize this opportunity to inform you that all the benefits accorded to you will continue during and after your paid vacation, up to the end of your contract with X School, August 31st 2013.

I am stunned and i have to read it through twice.

Sin and Ted have been asked toget a response from me. So i write on one of the copies to Ato S. thanking him for his kind words, ensuring i am fine and have so much to sort before the end of school. There is the inspectorate visit beginning Monday, 2 Sports Days, 3 Awards Ceremonies, The Grade 5 SATs, Secondary transfer and field trip to Lalibela, the Grand Opening of our Role Play Room and not least reports. I will be in at my desk on Monday.
