On Sunday i call an emergency Primary
Management Team meeting at 12pm. I arrive at 11.20 and write a hurried additional
paragraph for Monday's Newsletter to say goodbye and thank you to parents,
students and staff.
Miss J and Mr Z arrive promptly, and i inform them of my
intention to take up the offer of gardening leave. Miss J is crying and even
the usually unflustered Mr Z is teary-eyed. I tell them not to worry and i am
happy to be consulted if they have something they need help on. I am asked what
they should say about my absenteeism and i request they tell the truth. Mr Z
will lead his first Staff Briefing tomorrow and meet Ed, the "external inspector" from Kenya.
I thank them for all their help and
support, and lock up my office door for the last time.
I draw a large cartoon self-portrait on my
whiteboard outside with my slogan “Love and Peace” - as good a way as any to say
goodbye to my lovely kids.
That sounds so sad. :(
