Guided Reading

I spent my meagre budget already and i have barely scratched the surface. So i demand more. I demand approximately US$12000 to import some guided reading books at SMT. Amazingly it is passed and i ask Mr Z to double his wish list. Unfortunately he has selected the much worn Oxford Reading Tree but they serve the purpose.

Most of my staff have “Silent Reading” and nothing else. Silent reading is not teaching. And that’s what i want. I’ve completed leading workshops in Writng and Spelling and now it’s time to introduce “Guided Reading” – as foreign an idea here as pretty much everything i have introduced over the year.

Boss, who is receiving her final medication cycle in UK amazingly asks me to send her a list and she will try and source. I am very sceptical, but i get a call from her telling me she can get me 3000 readers for a third of the price quoted on the Internet. She is sending them air-freight.

It’s probably the first decent thing she has done in eight years for my school.
