After my very stressful week, Ginger Warrior is insistent i join him
in the Lufthansa sponsored golf tournament on Saturday afternoon.
My game went pear-shaped at the end of November
after failing to make my weekly endeavours. I have been lucky to get 12 holes
in fortnightly with Ginger Warrior and Frank on a Thursday afternoon.
It’s a full field of 48 players with the
first prize of a return flight to Europe. We’re all playing Stableford, but with
the maximum handicap given 24, i’m still plying some 6 – 10 shots behind where i should be.
I am drawn with the delightfully polite South
Korean Abebe and the morose Wilhelm from Belgium. And i am playing very
consistently. By the time we reach Hole 12, Wilhelm is convinced i am the
winner. I then mange to shoot a 7 and a 6 for my next two holes and i am very
unconvinced.
Nonetheless, i come in to the clubhouse
with my best round for the OLGC (84). Ginger Warrior is already there in very
loud spirits , and feeling confident. He has scored 37 points, and is currently
the leading card. I get Wilhelm to count my points. He makes it 36 points, but
passes it to the Club Captain Seppo for confirmation. After a five minute wait,
he scores it 37 points and it goes into further checking to judge the winner.
However, from South Korean corner,
leading lady is now claiming 38 points – and declared the winner. GW is awarded
2nd prize and i come in a remarkable 3rd. Whilst the
elderly Korean collects her air-ticket, Ginger Warrior and i make do with a bag each.
