Yaya Africa Athletes Village

Just  20kms from my apartment, up through Sidist Kilo the new and shiny Yaya Africa Athletes Village. I meet up with Ginger Warrior and family once they finish in church.

At 2500+ metres, it sells itself as a high altitude training centre for Africa’s athletic elite, but today when i visit, there is a massive wedding going on in the grounds, with not an athlete in sight – just a mix of Ethiopian socialites and and a small scattering of ferengi sitting on their asses in the sun.

They offer US$55 packages including 3 meals a day, free use of sauna, steam room and gym, and coaching and running guides. The food is reasonably priced but not very tasty or special and you can also ride horses. They have 16 modern but unexciting rooms.

The air is clean and fresh, and the gardens are beautiful.
