Unsurprisingly, i have received many complaints about teachers – in both
instruction and instructional supervision. And it’s mighty hard not to agree
with for i have witnessed it first hand. But i am somewhat surprised it’s not a
daily thing.
What i found curious at first was that the
parents more often than not wanted anonymity, making it difficult to speak to
the teacher. But the reason has become all so very clear. The teachers want
revenge and readily take it out on the student, though either sarcasm “Who is
gonna squeal to their mothers’ today?” (a quote from a teacher in my Upper Kindergarten), or completely sinister threats – usually in the domain of
Secondary. Another of those Ethiopian thangs. Stories i have heard varied from
shocking to the incredulous.
I have just completed the compilation of the
Teacher Appraisal model and part of the process will be a bi-annual Parent
survey on the quality of teaching and learning. I want it completed so i have
asked just 6 very straightforward questions where the parent can score the
teachers on a 1 – 5 scale. And totally anonymously of course!
