Lunch with a Lawyer

I really like the school lawyer – the only straight-talking Ethiopian i have ever met! But i can't turn to him. Returning aged Rasta Mrs R. sets me up with Albi who i agree to meet in a restaurant close to school.

Albi is very excited and confirms that non-payment of my salary at the end of the month is completely a breach of contract on their part and will work in my favour in any court in Addis. As the only working contract between myself and the school was the “pre-contract”, that i signed in May that is what we are working still working on. With no grounds whatsoever to dismiss me from my position, if they want rid of Mountain Man now, it’ll cost them the price of a two year contract.

I can be a vindictive bastard. And these peeps i have been working for deserve to pay. What a complete waste of my time!. But this is Ethiopia, and even clear-cut labour dispute court cases can go on 2 – 3 years through a swathe of bureaucratic nonsense.
