Lying is rife in Ethiopia. It’s like a
national pass-time. The amount of bullshit, deceit, lies, fakes and frauds i
have dealt with in my first 2 and a bit months is simply unfuckingbelievably frightening.
And our Administration department is just a microcosm of the country. It
doesn’t make any difference that this is meant to be a school – and an international
one at that!
I have developed what i call my Deceit Scale
which i endeavour to judge “statements”. It is a scale of 1 – 5, where 1 is
just a mere fib to 5 which is just one colossus
heap of complete shite.
They tell so many untruths they easily lose
track of them, and they end up continually contradicting what has been
previously lied on before. Unfortunately even when you trip them up they don’t
seem embarrassed by it at all. In this respect it’s like my very English Boss
has “gone native” – she has got BS down to a fine art, which probably explains
her longevity here.
Apart from Ms Jill, i can’t trust
anyone. I don’t know what i’m doing here
in such an unhealthy environment.
