Drought

Water – or the lack of, is the greatest inconvenience, both in Addis and throughout the country. Water is sporadic at best in my apartment at Sunshine Condiminiums, but is even a rarer commodity at school.

With over 440 students on site, toilet flushing is a must and huge internal water barrels are used, a large saucepan and a “toilet maid” stationed outside each of the six toilet areas on campus to assist and dispense toilet paper. Theft is rife!

Ato Ketima (Site Manager) updates me daily on strategic remedies, from water truck deliveries, to additional piping and water tanks, and The Bribe. The municipality are planning to upgrade the water pipes along our side mud path. It could take anywhere between three weeks to three years, but they could expediate the situation by “donating” Birr 3000. I don’t wanna associate myself with such shinanigins and i refuse Ketima to proceed along this channel.

Yesterday Ketima tells me Dr No tried opening “negotiations” having made a confirmed “bid” of Birr 2000. It was point blank refused.
